The sun has been in hiding this year, but finally she has arrived and boy, she is a sight for cold and sore eyes! This weekend the forecast is temperatures close or even above 20 degrees, unheard of in these neck of the woods. So to celebrate we need something light and refreshing that goes down easily - and we haven’t gone far to find it. As most of you reading this blog know we LOVE Norwegian cider! We do drink it all year, but there is just something perfect about drinking it on a warm spring day. Maybe it is the pictures of the Hardanger Fjord in bloom that stirs the heart and makes us extra patriotic. I don’t know but let's make this a tradition: the first true spring day we pop open a local cider and enjoy the sun for the first time after a long winter! We have made the trip to Hardanger for this week's drink, more precisely Kvestad Sideri. Located on the west bank of the South Fjord, just about in the middle of the fjord this farm has a history going back centuries. Just as long they have made cider, and now they are a part of the cider-revolution we are experiencing in Norway. This week we are opening their Rosé, as beautiful to look at as it is tasteful! Tasting notes:Kvestad Jubileum Rosésider - 189,90 kr Beautiful red colour, a bit on the dark side. Ripe red apples on the nose. Very delicate and inviting. Hints of wild cherry as well which is used in this cider so no surprise there. Nice and dry in the mouth with a good weight to it. Ripe apples as well here, but the cherry comes more in to play in the mouth. Great acidity and minerality as you would expect from cider from the South Fjord. Great as an aperitif, but will also work well with food, like grilled meats, any salad, and also antipasti with a nice spread of meats and cheeses.
