This week we bring you a beautiful beast from South Africa. A robust and punchy, yet elegant Chenin Blanc from a small plot above the town of Wellington.
I’ve been a huge fan of Chenin Blanc for more than a decade, and especially the ones from South Africa. I would go as far as say that the best Chenin Blanc’s in the world come from this great country.

We visited South Africa a few years back and you can check out the story here:
Our pick this week comes from vines planted back in 1974. They have low yields and great concentration. The soil is mostly Granite, which pairs excellent with the Chenin grape. The wine was matured in both French oak and steel and aging potential is 4-6 years.

Tasting Notes

Picture

Painted Wolf Lycaon Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2019 - 349kr

Medium deep yellow.
Great complexity at the nose, with peaches, butter, cream, roasted nuts and warm stones.
Good concentration in the mouth with plenty of citrus, ripe apples, honey and nuts. Very nice length and good acidity.

With food
This can handle a wide variety of food. Pretty much anything from the sea, as long as it’s richly prepared or grilled. Will be killer with a chicken cassoulet or fiery pork dishes.
