This is the best bottle I've tasted for a very very long time. And it's from Canada.
Canada!!! I didn't even know that wine making could reach this level in climates resembling Norway, where I live. Fantastic!!

This is just to give you an idea on how far north the vineyards are situated.

We know that they make great wines outside San Fransisco, but thats 17 hours driving south. 1600 km.

The Meyer Family had their first vintage ready in 2006. They'd decided to craft as they do in Burgundy, emphasising on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. The annual production is limited to 8000 cases, about 96.000 bottles. That's a very small and exclusive production, in case you wondered :)

The quality of the wines have lead them to several awards and recognitions. And with wines like the Chardonnay I've tasted, the future looks very promising for the small family driven winery.

Beautifully situated, in landscape we easily can relate to here in Norway.

The Chardonnay we've tasted is from this vineyard; Old Main Road Vineyard. It's set on a terrace, giving the silt and clay soil good drainage .

Tasting notes

Meyer Old Main Road Tribute Chardonnay 2016 - 279 kr

Brilliant golden yellow colour.

Yummy smell of fresh butter, ripe lemons, toast and nuts. It's much like the smell of the perfect Saturday breakfast.

Rich and creamy in the mouth, giving an  extraordinary luxurious mouthfeel.
Lemons and butter notes also on taste, with well integrated oak. It's like every part of the mouth is covered in this buttery-lemon-citrusy cream. This creamy part is then met with great acidity, leaving a very well balanced finish.
It's a wine that knows what it wants. It has direction, elegance and a long after taste.

Food:
Anything buttery! That's the tag we need for food pairings with this bottle.
Buttery roast chicken, sole fish in a creamy butter-wine reduction or try with stuff that has melted cheese on it. Cauliflower gratinated, toped with crispy bacon.

Conclusion:
Hats off to an absolutely stunning wine. Blind tasting this, one could easily ping it to a 1000kr bottle of Montrachet from Burgundy. Run and buy before Vinmonopolet runs out.

PS! - Vinmonopolet has gotten their hands on a few cases of Meyer Pinot Noir as well. Just saying.

I’m so glad to see that Meyer Vineyards is getting the international interest and cudos that they deserve. All your hard work is paying off. Hats off to you, Jak and family 🍷 Cheers, Lesly Round
