Patagonia. It has adventure written all over it. It's a spaciously populated area at the southern end of South America. It's shared by Chile and Argentina, and is wild and similar to Norwegian nature, in many ways. It's on most hiking enthusiasts bucket list.

But let's get down to business and talk about why you clicked this story... They make amazing wine here. And wine of the week is this beautiful Pinot Noir from Bodega Chacra:

In 2004 winemaker Piero Incisa della Rocchetta set out to find the most unobstructed expression of Patagonia, suitable for his wine project. He settled for The Rio Negro region. A valley situated about 300 meters above sea level, and with the Rio Negro river dominating at the bottom. The river originates from the junction of two meltwater rivers, Limay and Neuquén, and then crosses the stepped plains of the province through a forest about 3 kilometers long at the Alto Valle.

Winter temperatures can reach -5 Celcius and in summer time ranging from 10 to 35. Classic dessert conditions, in other words. But one mayor factor plays in, making this micro climate quite unique. The Andes Mountains.

In winter ice cold winds decent from the snow covered Andes, making it freezing. But as summer kicks in, the snow is gone and the winds from the Andes are now perfect tempered to cool the burning valley. Making it perfect for wine growing. Nature is fascinating :)

This bottle is available at 65 Vinmonopol stores and will give you a taste of what the nature of Patagonia can provide. Just a fantastic bottle of Pinot Noir.

Tasting Notes

Picture
Bodega Chacra Barda Pinot Noir 2017 - 229Kr

Light burgundy red colour, with slightly purple edge.
Delicious smell of fresh raspberries, blueberries, hints of cherries, leather and herb garden.
Lush mouth feel, with red berries popping up everywhere. Firm and young expression, with nicely integrated notes of barrique.

FOOD

This will go very well with light meats such as pork and poultry. Or try dishing up some lean Argentinian beef. Tenderloin on the barbecue, with a corn driven salad on the side.

As I said above; "just a fantastic bottle of Pinot Noir"

Enjoy! :)
