Wine of the week: Northern Delights

Our wine of the week has origins from Harstad, northern Norway. Well maybe not the wine itself, but our relationship to it does.
A few years back we were invited to the Arctic Wine Festival in Harstad, to talk about our wine adventures. We had a great time. During this trip we meet winemaker Matteo Catania from Sicilia. He's the brains behind the Gulfi brand. And of all the wines we tasted during the festival, the Gulfi wines were by far the best. Well farmed, organic and of great complexity. Tasting notes

Gulfi Rosà 2015 - 200 Nok

Brilliant red, almost like a super light red wine on colour. Picture you have a glass of Pinot Noir and splash some white wine into it; there you go.

Complex smell of raspberries, my mums old strawberry garden and some cherries. Being served this blind, I'd easily mistaken it for a red Pinot Noir from Burgundy or a Beaujolais, maybe.

Rich entry in the mouth with raspberries, currants and some cherries. Hints of rhubarb and some candied oranges. Extremely well integrated acidity that feels luxurious and pleasant. Long, rich and very elegant aftertaste.

FOOD

This is a very diverse food wine. It will go well with most salads, great with light pizzas and white fish with sauce.
