We are having a spring heat wave and for me that means bring out the Riesling! And since we are going to Germany to film some more KulTour episodes in May it is also research. This week’s wine is one of the most delicate Mosel wines I know. It’s a bit pricy but so, so worth it. The Haag name has long been a source of great quality in Mosel wine. Most famous is the wines from Fritz Haag. Here the youngest son Oliver Haag is the wine maker of the winery named after his grandfather. But his brother, Thomas Haag, makes the wines for this weeks recommendations. Thomas has built his winery, Schloss Lieser, into one of the most popular and highly recommended wines from the Mosel Valley. And his Spätlese from Wehlener Sonnenuhr is no exeption! Tasting NotesSchloss Lieser Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese 2016 - Kr 292,10 Wow, what a wine. So full and delicate. Orange, ripe red apples, and lemon on the nose. So rich and full in the mouth. Lemons, apples and some peach that lingers for a long time. What sticks out is the perfect balance between sweetness and structure. This can be enjoyed with some spicy Asian food and Sushi. But it will also be perfect to enjoy by itself.
