The Fantastic BIBI from Tuscany

Picture
20 minutes north of Firenze in Tuscany lives a man in a spectacular castle. His name is Bibi Graetz, or Dan Erland Graetz, which is his real name. But the nickname Bibi has been around for as long as he can remember; so Bibi it is.
Picture
With a Norwegian mother Bibi grew up in this fairytale castle right outside of Firenze. His childhood room was in the big tower in the middle. Surrounding the castle was vineyards, tended too by the castle gardener. When the old gardener passed away in 1997 Bibi decided; "I'm going to be a winemaker", and so he did.

The vineyards on the property consisted of old, but well kept vines, with low yield, but very high quality. Bibi's way to the top was quicker than he could ever dream off. And in 2003, just a few years into his winemaking project, he won wine of the year in the Bordeaux Wine Expo.

His star bottle was called Testamatta and is still his most sought after wine.
The current vintage, 2018, got 100/100 points in Decanter magazine, and 99-98 from the rest of the established wine press. An amazing achievement, that you can taste at 995kr for a bottle. That is if you can get hold of one.

But Bibi makes more good stuff, and bottles that remain high in quality but way lower in price.

Our pick of the week is his house red wine. Widely available at Vinmonopolet and a fantastic value for money bottle.

Tasting Notes

CASAMATTA ROSSO 2019 - 144kr

Deep red colour.
Vibrant smell of fresh red fruits, herbs and ripe red plums.
Delicious and fruit driven in the mouth with fresh crushed red berries and garden herbs. Juicy, light and fruity, with a clean aftertaste and nice small tannins.

With Food
"What grows together goes together" is a widely known saying when it comes to food and wine pairing. And this very much applies to this bottle. Take Italian county cooking and chug it down with this red wine. Go for a classic thin crust pizza, a Carbonara or any pork or chicken dish.

Great bottle and lots of wine for the price.
