I recently came across this brilliant bottle filled with the golden tears of Christ. Made with a relatively unknown grape called Coda Di Volpe Bianco, this is a different and really delicious affair.
The wine is made by Tenuta Cavalier Pepe, a family operation located east of Napoli in the region of Irpinia. Here they've been making wines for generations, focusing on local grape varieties. The grapes for this wine are manually harvested and fermented in steel tanks. Matured for only 5 months in steel. The result is a very tasty og drinkable wine, packed with flavour. Delicious on it's own, but brilliant with food. And best of all; at a fantastic price.
Cavalier Tenuta Pepe Lacryma Christi Vesuvio Bianco 2021 - 194kr
Golden yellow colour. Intriguing nose with lots of herbs, ripe apples, camphor and warm spices. Nice and polished in the mouth with apricots, herbs, roasted nuts and ripe yellow apples. Nicely balanced acidity, good concentration and length. A lot of wine for the price.
With Food Try it with chicken and turkey dishes. Also vegetarian pairings will be nice, as well as white fish dishes.
