Wine of the week: Summer berries in a bottle

Imagine the summer berries you grew up with. Fresh, ripe and full of fantastic flavours. We had a few rows of strawberries, and my best buddy Terje had big juicy raspberries. I remember the smell on our hands after eating what was available. And then, 30 years later I pop a bottle of cloudy red wine from France, and the memories come flowing back. It's amazing how strong our sense of smell really is.

I've been a fan of the Mosse wine makers for long time, but I've never tasted one of their red bottles.
They are situated in the Loire Valley, about an hour East of Nantes, and run by biological principals. They focus on a natural style of wine making , without to much intervention in the vineyard or the cellar. The've had great success with this in all their whites, and now also with the red I'v tasted.

Tasting notes

MOSSE LE GROS 2016 - 239 NOK

Hazy and cloudy red on colour.
Smelling it is like walking into a garden of freshly crushed red berries. Strawberries, raspberries, cherries and Provence herbs.
Light mouth feel with plenty of red berries playing around. Taste of my grandmas home made currant juice, with fresh strawberries added to the mix.
Small and elegant tannins add a good structure to the wine. Good acidity as well.

Extremely delicate wine, with a juicy sensation. Perfect in the evening of a hot summer day, or earlier if the weather is shit :)

Food
A great wine with many light summer dishes. Quite versatile that way. Salads, light vegetable soups, poultry dishes and and rabbit.
