Wine of the week: A Summer wine and perfect with seafood !

18/5/2018

This weeks wine comes from a region that we feel is very underrated, the Loire valley close to Nantes. Here they make a crisp and delicate white wine based on the grape Melon de Bourgogne called Muscadet, sometimes with sur-lie added, which means that the wine has been aged with the residual yeast still in the vat.

Famous for being the perfect wine with oyster and we can truly agree with that. If you ever travel to Normandy, Brittany or even Paris and order oysters you have to order a Muscadet Sur Lie to go with them.

Tasting notes:
Chateau du Coing de St Fiacre, Muscadet Sèvre et Maine sur lie, 161,90 kr

A nice pale yellow colour.
Fresh, light and with hints on lemon on the nose. It gets a bit more complexity and tropical fruits after a while.

Good acidity and structure in the mouth. At first there is a freshness and a lemon/lime feeling to the taste. After an hour with air it becomes more complex and more tropical fruits like mango and peach appear.

Food
This just screams for seafood. Try it with Norwegian shrimps, it’s going to work like a charm.

Conclusion
I cheap and great alternative to Chablis. The Muscadet wines are truly a great buy at the moment.
