The weekend is upon us and for me that means it’s time for pizza! And when it comes to choosing wine to pizza we of course go to Italy. Most Italian wines will work with Italian foods, but for me there is something great with pizza and a good Chianti. The wines from Fattoria Selvapiana are a favourite of ours and wines we come back to again and again. This week we have gone for their house wine, the cheapest one you can get in the Vinmonopolet. And at just over 200 kroner this is a great value wine that is great on its own but perfect with food like pizza. Selvapiana is a classic Tuscan farm in the heart of Chianti Rufina. Its original purpose was to be the summer residence of Florentine bishops. Since 1957, it has been owned by Mr. Giuntini Masseti, who relentlessly works on restoring the reputation of Chianti Rufina. Rufina is the smallest subregion in the Chianti zone (only 800 hectares). The grapes are grown on the ancient Selvapiana estate, located north of the town of Pontassieve and covering 56 hectares of vineyards. Tasting notes:Selvapiana Chianti Rufina 2022 - 215,- kr. Cherries, strawberries and a hint of raspberries are on the nose, with some wild fenneland harbal, earthy notes. More cherries and berries are on the palate, with a mineral salinity and chalky tannins that emphasize the flavor and texture of freshly turned soil drawn from the nose. Min perfekte pizzavin, men passer også godt til lyst kjøtt, lam og svin.
