One does not need to follow this blog for long to understand that we love German Riesling wines. And we don’t really need any reason to drink Riesling, but when there is one that is steeped in tradition, then that is alle the better. For we are now in the middle of what the Germans so lovingly call Spargelzeit – it is time for Asparagus! – and so we open a bottle to accompany the beautiful white asparagus that are in season now. Asparagus can be a difficult vegetable to pair with wine. Especially the green variant that has chlorophyll that gives them its distinctive flavour. The white ones are nuttier and have more earth tones though with a more rounded and softer flavour. Dry German wines are perfect with these, especially if you serve the asparagus with ham and hollandaise sauce. Markus Molitor is one of the more famous and popular producers from the Mosel Valley that we in Norway have loved for a long time. He has several wines at the Vinmonopol, in every price category, and his wines are always at the top when it comes to quality. That means that even at a low price you will get a top, top quality wine to go with your Spargel! Tasting notes: Markus Molitor Tradition Riesling 2019 - 139,90 kr Lime, green apples and lemon on the nose. Very good acidity and minerality gives the wine a very fresh and fruity felling in the mouth. Green apples and lime dominate the flavour palate. A bit closed at first but opens up nicely and is very refreshing. Great value at only 139,90 kr.
