A classic treasure - 90p

Sometimes you need that little extra, a pet on the back after a hard week or something to look forward to as you get up the cabin. 
You’re going to keep it classic. It needs to be classy and totally reliable. No chance for disappointment. We’re heading to south western France and the most famous wine region in the world; Bordeaux.
This is one of my returning favorites when I’m treating myself to something special. 
It’s a classic style Bordeaux, but it stands out in the crowd. 

This wine is made by Chateau Le Puy, located in the northeast of Libourne. The Château is a part of the Côtes-de-Francs, a small denomination that holds some exceptional terroirs, and this is where the Amoreau family has been cultivating vines for four centuries.
It’s a wine made with minimal intervention and after natural principles, but without being funky. Sulfite is used, to my pleasure. 
A classic Merlot driven Bordeaux blend with: MERLOT 85%, CABERNET SAUVIGNON 7%, CABERNET FRANC 6%, CARMÉNÈRE 1%, MALBEC 1%

It drinks exceptionally well now and will also develop nicely over the next decade.
A dream for pairing game meat and lamb. 

Tasting notes

​Chateau Le Puy Emilien 2018 - 399kr

Dark red. Absolutely lovely aromas of ripe plums, sweet tobacco, horse saddle, lightly burnt wood, cherries and blueberries. 
Rich and fleshy in the mouth. Layered with sweet dark fruits, spices and wood. Super smooth velvety tannins and a long tasty finish.
