Lebanon had a had a golden valley, excellent for farming and growing vines. The Bekaa Valley is situated a good hour drive inland from the coast, and is home to excellent craftsmanship in winemaking. Today we’ve selected Domaine Wardy, 4th generation winemakers running the operation since 1881. They produce a wide variety of single grape wines, which are all very good. I’d recommend you try their Syrah and Cinsault, if you crave some red’s. Because today we’ve been tasting their white blend. A mix of Sauvignon Blanc, Obeidi, Viognier and Chardonnay, sourced from old organically farmed vines. A really delicious treat at a very nice price. Tasting Notes
December is upon us and it’s time to gear up for Christmas. But before we let the festivities take over our life I want to have one quiet weekend huddled up in a warm blanked reading a good book and drinking a great autumn wine. And my go to wine for this is a Nebbiolo from Langhe in Piemonte. Giovanni Rosso identity lies in the vineyards, to which they are devoted to. The wines are highly distinguishable, terroir by terroir and produce excellent wines in all price classes. The wine we have chosen this week is reasonable and great quality. Perfect for comfort but also with typical Italian dishes. Tasting notes:Giovanni Rosso Langhe Nebbiolo 2022 - 239,90 kr Violet and roses, fruity scents with cherry notes. Elegant and bloody structure, fine tannins and crisp freshness. Easy to drink. Perfect for any situation, from simple picnic to sophisticated aperitif; easily supports structured dishes. It’s rare to come across noble sweet wine, with age, at a decent price. But we found one. A 27 year old Sauternes, from the golden vintage of 1997. This beauty will be a treat for a range of Christmas desserts and sweets. Tasting Notes
It’s that time of the year again - “The new wine” is upon us. In my opinion one of the worst pr hypes in the wine world. The Beaujolais Nouveau is being released on the third Thursday of November so be ready to drink some, quite frankly, not ready wine. I like to use this time as an opportunity to recommend a Beaujolaise with some age, not much, but at least the wine has had time to rest and fulfil its potential. We have recommended several of Jean Paul Bruns wines over the years and with good cause. He is an excellent wine maker! One of our earliest stories was about his fine wine cellars as you can see here: The Fleurie wine fields are situated in the northern parts of Beaujolaise and the wines from here are often characterised as feminine, soft and fruity. The vintage for sale now is the 2022, so a healthy two years this wine has had to rest - what luxu Tasting notes:Jean Paul Brun Fleurie 2022 - 329,90 kr Bright, ruby-purple colour, aromas are expressive and pure, with perfumed notes of fresh red cherries. Palate is full and ripe, having charming, well concentrated middle, suave, delicate texture, and a long, pleasurable finish. Try it with pork, chicken or just when you need a great glass to comfort yourself on a rainy November night. I came across this magic bottle recently. A bone dry 13 years old Tokaji, and at an excellent price. Hungary is most known for their sweet wine «Tokaji», but it also comes as a dry white wine made on the grape Furmint. Our pick of the week is fermented in old French oak barrels, and aged on the lees for another 10 months. It drinks very well now, but it will continue to develop in an interesting direction for another 5-6 years. Killer wine with food. Tasting Notes
Autumn storms are raging all over the world it seems. Record amounts of rain has fallen all along the west coast so we the best place to be is inside, that's for sure. This week we have opened a lovely white from England to comfort ourselves with. When we started drinking wine nobody thought of England as a land of quality red or white wines. But a lot has changed in the last 30 years, as the climate and weather is showing us. On the “positive” side is that counties further north are making excellent wines and England is probably the best of these new winemaking places. This week's wine comes from Hattingley in Hampshire. Although England is a small country, there is a multitude of soil types and microclimates which make all the difference in a cool, marginal climate. As with most English wine makers their sparkling is the most famous, but their still wines are slowly coming along so this week we are going for at nice Chardonnay still wine. Tasting notesHattingley Valley Still White 2022 - 249,90 kr Pale lemon in colour, it is wonderfully vibrant, with aromas of lime, blossom, candied pear and tart nectarine on the nose. Citrus and green apple continue on the palate, along with notes of elderflower, which are complimented by a natural bright acidity. A fine and rich mouthfeel ends in a long and refreshing finish! Try it with fish and chicken pâtés or vegetable terrine with toasted bread I fell in love with Savoie two decades ago. This tiny, quite unknown wine region situated shoulder to shoulder with famous big brother Burgundy, has a lot to offer. Most famous for their white wines, and I've selected a favorite for this week. Produced by Jean-Pierre Bernard and Chantal Chevallier, they run a family operation since the early 70s. Specially known for their great white wines, Roulette De Savoie, which has been around for hounders of years. In 1432 the Altesse grape variety, which gives the famous Roussette de Savoie, was imported from Cyprus by the Count of Marest, who was just back from the great Crusade. The grape has defined the region and is at its greatest in Savoie. Tasting Notes
Autumn is definitely here, the colours are vibrant, the air is chilly and it's raining all the time. Sometimes you just have to curl up inside with a good book and chill. Usually I would pop open a red wine but this time I have gone for a classic white wine from Burgundy. And why not, is rich and tasty with hints of the summer we never got … Domaine Louis Latour covers 48 hectares of vineyard, including 27 hectares of Grand Cru, and is the largest holding of Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy. The domaine is centred in the village of Aloxe-Corton which has been the Latour's family home since the creation of the house. Respect for terroir is one of the fundamental values of the Maison, who have practised reasoned agriculture for almost 20 years. The Domaine makes fantastic reds and whites but this week we have gone for one of their fine white wines. Tasting notes:Louis Latour Bourgogne Chardonnay 2023 - 249,90 kr Pale yellow in colour. An intense nose with aromas of muscatel and brioche. Ample and round on the palate, flavours ranging from yellow peach to lemon. Nice length. Will be excellent with some good charcuterie, grilled fish and shellfish or just as an aperitif. We’re paying tribute to a true classic from Chianti today. This is a personal favorite from this legendary region in the heart of Italy. Casanuova di Nittardi Chianti Classico is a pure Sangiovese from the single vineyard “Vigna Doghessa” in the municipality of Castellina in Chianti. It delivers premium quality year after year, and has a somewhat cult status in many countries. Since 1981, Nittardi has paid annual homage to Michelangelo by having an internationally recognized artists create the label and wrapping paper. This is an elegant wine that will pair exceptionally well with many autumn dishes, and has cellaring potential for a decade. Tasting Notes
